IIHS is looking for a trainee to provide Library and information services at the IIHSLibrary. Joining the Library team, the Trainee will coordinate various processes –acquisition, circulation, and managing online systems and services for the Library. Theideal candidate should be service-oriented, tech-savvy and multitasking. Since this workinvolves setting up the primary processes of Library services the candidate will be exposed to the entire Library housekeeping operations. A brief outline of the deliverables

and skills are:

Deliverables

• Identifying various resources for the Library including books, journals, databases,cartographic materials and electronic resources – ordering, invoicing, and payment processing etc.

• Technical processing such as classification, cataloguing etc. of acquired materials.

• Liaison with all the IIHS faculty and staff for collection development, library services delivery, obtaining feedback for continual improvement.

• Should manage the circulation desk and engaging users with reference queries online and offline.

• Should be able to deliver online reference and information services for the patrons. Innovative and developing online services for referencing, digital repository, and in integrated resource discovery interfaces and applications.

• Should track urban development and studies related news and information for dissemination and in designing information products and services.

Qualification :

Bachelors in Library science with a minimum of 1 year of experience managing a large modern technology enabled library. Or Masters in Library science and a minimum of 0-2 years of experience managing a large modern technology enabled library in a wide variety of settings. Freshers are encouraged to apply.

NET : court declines stay

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday declined to stay a single judge’s order quashing the University Grants Commission’s (UGC)’s new eligibility criteria for the National Eligibility Test.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K. Vinod Chandran posted an appeal filed by the UGC to February 5 for final hearing.

The Single Judge had also directed the UGC to grant certificates to candidates who had obtained the minimum mark prescribed earlier.

UGC's contention

The UGC contended that the court had no right to make a declaration regarding the result of a test. The original notification had clearly stated that the candidates should obtain minimum required marks in each paper separately.

It had also been said that the qualifying criteria for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for lectureship would be decided by the UGC before the declaration of results. It was a moderation committee appointed by the UGC and consisting of senior academicians that had recommended that the general, OBC (non-creamy layer) and the SC/ST candidates would be required to obtain an aggregate percentage of 65, 60 and 55 respectively in addition to the paper-wise minimum percentage as qualifying criteria, the UGC said.

Within powers

The appeal said that in order to maintain high standard in education, prescription of an aggregate percentage in an examination was well within the powers of the UGC.

Prescribing the qualifying criteria by fixing an aggregate percentage could not be called change of rules in the middle of the test. No new criterion was introduced by the UGC.

Job Description

Will be responsible to establish and implement library and information policies

Awareness of and compliance with AICTE/UGC Norms

Manage vendor development, books procurement and payment processes

Manage digital / E-Books / Electronic Database procurement and management

Prepare and manage the budget of Library

Prepare and monitor the reports of Library

Develop and maintain the collection management related policies

Ensure an accurate inventory of resources

Responsible for day to day efficient running of library

Acquisition, Cataloguing and Classification of books

Maintenance of a stock list and Record Keeping

Handling all stacking of books, journals and periodicals and accounting for their Stocking, Issue and Return

Maintaining and Updating the databases with new arrivals of books, periodicals and professional journals.
